Even the simplest dessert can be "dressed up" with a few nice plating touches - and that can often be done easily with a little sprinkle of icing (aka powdered) sugar. Instead of reaching into my pantry, un-bundling the icing sugar, taking a bit out with a spoon and using a small sieve / sifter - I just reach for my ever-ready shaker.
There are many versions of this. While it may seem like a frivolous purchase - it often comes in handy!
